Step-Up Night (Groundwork)
Step-Up Night is basically your meeting night. For the convenience of people having different schedules, we offer this Step-Up Night on either Monday or Friday from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. You will choose which of these 2 nights works best for your schedule. We do not offer childcare, so it may be convenient for mom to come on 1 of the nights, and dad to come on the other night.
Your first 6 weeks will be spent in the Groundwork book #1. Once you complete the Groundwork #1 book, you will be issued the Groundwork #2 book, which is also 6 weeks long. In other words you have 12 weeks of Groundwork to complete before moving into the Step Study group. In these 2 books you will be working on a daily curriculum that will take you approximately 15-20 minutes per day. On day 6 of each week in these 2 books will be your “Review & Catchup” day. This day will consist of 5 questions that you will need to answer about your week in your book. Day 7 will be your meeting night. The questions on day 6 will structure your sharing time in the Groundwork meeting on day 7.
One of the things that makes these meetings so good is the fact that THESE MEETINGS ARE STRUCTURED!
The Groundwork material is preparing us to WORK the 12-steps, and helps discipline us to getting into a rhythm of consistency in reading and journaling. Both are valuable and necessary for our recovery.
These meetings are what we call “open meetings”, because there can be someone in the meeting that is on week 1, another on week 4, yet another on week 12. Each person shares based on their “Review & Catch-up” questions on their week in their book. This allows us to hear other perspectives to the daily curriculum.
Another part about these meetings that is good is the fact that you are allowed to share YOUR thoughts without someone commenting on or trying to give you advice on what you shared.
