Training

We believe that a big part of our recovery is serving. We also believe that prison is a great place for recovery. It makes perfect sense that we would put our serving efforts towards helping our brothers in white at both TDCJ Units right outside the Abilene City Limits.

Steps Recovery Center is the home of Steps Prison Team. The Steps Prison Team is comprised of at least 3 Certified Volunteer Chaplain Assistants (CVCA), making it possible to escort our volunteers through the prison to teach classes, to host church services, and hand out Christmas gift bags.

TDCJ Volunteer training

Before going into any TDCJ Unit, you must first fill out and submit the TDCJ application (click here) Texas Department of Criminal Justice

The next step is to do the online training  (click here) Texas Department of Criminal Justice

After you have completed and submitted the online training, you will receive a “completion confirmation.”  Please email us a copy of that confirmation to jeffsmith@stepsabilene.com so we can file it.

Steps Prison Team Training

We have been serving in these Units for over a decade, and we have earned lots of favor inside these Units. We want our team to have a thorough understanding of the rules and risks of going inside not only for our safety, but also for the sake of not doing anything that may jeopardize getting the inmates in trouble.

Once you have done your State Training and you have decided that you want to be a part of the Steps Prison Team, contact us at Steps Recovery Center to find out when the next scheduled training is.
